How Does ThermaCool Work?

ThermaCool was created as an alternative to surgery for tightening skin. ThermaCool does not harm the top layers of the epidermis. Instead, ThermaCool uses radio waves to deliver an intense heat to the lower epidermis creating a "thermal wound." The heat causes these lower layers to contract and tighten and produce new collagen. As the lower skin layers heal, loose skin begins to tighten and fine lines and wrinkles begin to smooth out.

What Does ThermaCool Treat?

ThermaCool treats loose skin on the brow, mid- and lower face, jaw line, neck, breasts, arms, abdomen and legs.

What Are ThermaCool Treatments Like?

ThermaCool treatment duration depends on the size of the area being treated and normally last less than 30 minutes. For most patients anesthesia is not required, but some physicians recommend patients to take a slight sedative (in those cases patients will need to be driven or escorted home). Normally just a topical cream is applied an hour before treatment to numb the skin. When the area is treated, the patient will still feel a heat sensation. Cryogen spray is delivered before, during, and after the application of heat to minimize discomfort and promote healing.

During the healing process you may notice the area treated becomes slightly lumpy. This will go away within days and is just the body's reaction as it begins to heal from the ThermaCool treatment.

Does It Hurt and What Can Go Wrong?

All elective treatments carry some level of risk. However, because ThermaCool does not harm the top layers of the skin, fewer risks exist than for more invasive procedures. Common risks include swelling and bruising. Most patients can return to work the following day.

What should I expect from ThermaCool Treatment?

Results from ThermaCool vary with each patient. Some people see improvements within several days, however it may be several months before the complete effect of the ThermaCool treatment are visible. Remember: your skin and collagen are rebuilding. Also, depending on your skin's condition before treatment, you may need more treatments.
