FEATHER TOUCH LASER
The Feather Touch Laser is an ablative, carbon-dioxide laser that removes skin layers and provides the physician with a tool that allows great precision in treatment. The Feather Touch Laser delivers the laser energy in pulses in what is called a ?paint-brush? style. The physician can control the depth of the skin layers treated to effectively eliminate or minimize wrinkles and scars. The Feather Touch Laser provides greater and more long-lasting results than non-ablative or less invasive treatments.

How Does the Feather Touch Laser Work?
The Feather Touch Laser uses pulsed laser energy to remove old skin layers. To do this, the Feather Touch Laser focuses on the water content in skin cells; this minimizes and controls bleeding. Once old skin layers have been removed, the healing process begins and new skin cells begin to form. During the first two weeks after treatment skin is protected by bandages and treated with antibiotic ointment. These new skin cells are smoother and tighter than the older skin and create a more vibrant appearance.
What Does the Feather Touch Laser Treat?
The Feather Touch Laser effectively treats wrinkles, scars (including acne and chicken pox scars), uneven skin pigmentation, cancerous growths, and other unwanted signs of aging. Recovery takes longer than nonablative treatments, but Feather Touch Laser results are much more dramatic and long-lasting than other nonablative treatments.
What Are the Feather Touch Laser Treatments Like?
Most treatments take about 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the size of the area to be treated. Anesthesia is required and some patients are sedated. Basically laser resurfacing with the Feather Touch laser is like a controlled burn. Old skin is sloughed off in designated areas (these could be targeted areas such as eyes and mouth or could include the entire face). Once old skin is removed new skin cells begin to form. As important to the actual procedure is the recovery process. Skin is bandaged for about 7 to 10 days and treated with antibiotic ointment. After 2 weeks and the bandages have been removed, skin will appear pink and make up can be applied. Sun screen is a must to protect the new skin (which is sensitive to sun damage) and reduce the risk of signs of age due to sun exposure.
Does It Hurt and What Can Go Wrong?
The use of anesthesia and sedation minimizes pain during treatment. Post-treatment swelling and discomfort is treated with ice packs and doctor-prescribed pain medication. As new skin cells grow, treated areas will ooze and weep. It is important the post-treatment skin is carefully cared for, following doctor instructions.
As with all surgical procedures, some risks exists. Scarring, prolonged reddening, uneven skin surface and a change in pigmentation can occur. Tell your physician if you have a current herpes or cold sore outbreak or are recovering from a recent outbreak as this creates a risk in the procedure. Laser resurfacing often causes herpes infections which complicate the healing process.
What should I expect from the Feather Touch Laser Treatment?
The Feather Touch Laser offers dramatic, long-lasting results. Bandages are kept on the treated area for up to 2 weeks. After that skin may appear pink for a few weeks to a few months. Immediately upon removing bandages skin will appear younger and smoother. Actual results may take several months to see. Not all acne scars are treatable. If you have ice-pick scarring your doctor may recommend a two-step treatment. While it cannot remove all signs of aging and does not protect you from future aging, the Feather Touch Laser greatly minimizes scars, wrinkles and other signs of aging, providing you with a more youthful and radiant appearance.
